Delicious Yucatan food & international delicacies - Valladolid has some of the best food on the Peninsula. These are the best restaurants in Valladolid!

If you are planning a trip to Mexico, the country’s amazing food is likely one of the things you are looking forward to the most. Therefore, visiting a town that offers a wide range of culinary delights is a good idea. Thanks to the many restaurants in Valladolid, this town is one of these places.

As you stroll through the colonial center of Valladolid, you will stumble upon many fantastic restaurants and cafes that offer everything from Yucatan cuisine to international food. The following Valladolid restaurants are among the best.

Be sure to take a look at the opening times of the restaurants, as some close a lot earlier than others. After all, you do not want to miss out on the tasty food!

Restaurants in Valladolid
Calzada de los Frailes – a street full of cafes and restaurants in Valladolid

This colorful pueblo magico has amazing restaurants, but there are a lot of other great things to do in Valladolid. You can tour historic buildings like the Convento di San Bernardino de Siena and the Inglesia de San Servicio or visit one of the many cenotes near Valladolid.

And of course, it is also the best starting point for everyone that wants to visit Chichen Itza or the ruins of Ek Balam. And if you want to visit even more great places while being based in this town, you can also drive north to the pink lakes of Las Coloradas and the Ria Lagartos Biosphere Reserve.

Las Campanas

Address: Calle 42 #199

Las Campanas (‘The Bells’) is a Mexican restaurant in Valladolid and is located right at Parque Principal Francisco Cantón Rosado.

This charming little cantina is decorated with bells and as you look through the doors while eating, you can see the towers of the Inglesia de San Servicio.

It is a restaurant where locals and tourists mingle and enjoy delicious authentic Mexican food.

The service personnel is very friendly and will help you find the best Mexican dish based on your own dietary requirements.

CONATO

Address: Calle 40 – entre Calle 45 y 47

There are many great restaurants in Valladolid, but CONATO is my favorite one. From the colorful facade to the murals and paintings that depict Mexican motives – everything creates a very inviting and relaxing atmosphere. There is an indoor area where you sit surrounded by murals, and a small courtyard full of plants.

The Yucatan and Mexican food is so tasteful, that you will enjoy every single bite. Every dish we ordered was delicious and had a flavorful palette. The cocktails are excellent as well.

Recommended Dishes: Raviolis de Chaya y Queso de Bola – a real treat for your tastebuds!

La Casona de Valladolid is a buffet restaurant that is situated in a colonial courtyard. The buffet costs 330 MXN and has everything from Yucatan food to Mexican and international dishes. Non-alcoholic drinks are included.

This Valladolid restaurant is open from 1 PM to 6 PM from Monday to Saturday. This makes it a great place if you want to enjoy a hearty lunch in a charming environment.

Le’ Kaat

Address: Calzada de Los Frailes #210

Le’ Kaat is a vegetarian restaurant in Valladolid and also has many vegan dishes. The menu contains many vegetarian versions of traditional Mexican dishes as well as international dishes, which makes it the ideal place to visit if you want to try Mexican food but do not eat meat.

While the indoor space is limited, there is a charming garden area where you sit surrounded by plants and a small man-made waterfall. It’s a very relaxing atmosphere, where you can enjoy your food in peace.

This great restaurant can get quite crowded, so reserve a table in advance. It is cash only, but possible to pay in USD.

Recommended Dishes: Trilogia De Tacos (vegan). Try some of the aguas medicanales along with the food. The limonada especial con frutos rojos is very refreshing and tasty.

Restaurante Paparazzi

Address: Calzada de Los Frailes #202

Paparazzi is an Italian restaurant at the corner of Calzada de Los Frailes and came highly recommended by the owners of the eco lodge I was staying at. The atmosphere of this Valladolid restaurant is pleasant, and oftentimes there is live music in the evening. You can either opt to sit indoors or on the open terrace. The menu offers a large variety of Italian dishes alongside seafood and grilled meat.

This restaurant is one of the more expensive restaurants in Valladolid and is cash only, so ensure that you have a sufficient amount of money on you.

Mezcaleria Don Trejo

Address: Calzada de Los Frailes #212

Mezcaleria Don Trejo is a restaurant and bar with a very lively ambiance. The rooms and outdoor areas of this place all have a slightly different look and are made unique thanks to the use of unconventional furniture and decor. The is even a table inside an old VW bus.

Grab a bite and then enjoy a drink or two. The drink menu has a large selection of cocktails, and if you love mezcal, you will be amazed by this restaurant’s variety.

The live music at night tends to be loud, so it is not a place for a relaxed family meal, but it is ideal if you are looking for a party-like setting.

La Selva

Address: Calle 42 #179C

La Selva Budget Restaurant Valladolid

La Selva is a small restaurant and a local favorite as it serves authentic Mexican food. It is a rather simple restaurant with a familial atmosphere. It can get quite crowded in the evening, so you might have to wait a while to be seated.

It is the ideal restaurant in Valladolid if you want to find out which tortilla-based Mexican dish you like the most. Order panuchos, empanadas, chalupas, salbutes or tostadas – you can go no wrong. All of them can be ordered with chicken, pork, or beef, but you can also ask for a meatless option.

Restaurants in Valladolid: Drinks with a view

Los Frappes

Address: Calle 54a #211

Los Frappes is one of the places to go if you want a drink with a view in the afternoon. Located at the Convento de San Bernardino de Siena, this bar has a rooftop sitting area that grants you a direct view of the convent.

While the food is rather simple and is nothing to write songs about, the milkshakes and cocktails are great. So sit down and enjoy the view while sipping on an icy drink.

Where to stay in Valladolid

If you want to stay in a central location and on a street with many of Valladolid’s restaurants, Hotel Posada San Juan is a great option for you. It is located only a short walk away from the main square, so you will be able to walk everywhere should you not have a car.

Should you also want an amazing Mexican breakfast that will make you stuff yourself and do not mind staying a short drive outside of Valladolid, you will love The Blue Eco Lodge in Yalcon. Only a 10-minute long drive from the town center, this accommodation might just serve the best breakfast in the entire area. I can only encourage you to stay there. It is a wonderful property with plenty of birds and I love it.
