Best Hotels in Gran Canaria

While exploring the island, I had the chance to stay in vacation homes and hotels in Gran Canaria that are located all over the island. And I am more than happy about it, as it allowed me to experience different areas and to see how the accommodations differ based on the locations.

In addition to that, it also allowed me to tell you where to stay in Gran Canaria based on my own experience. Every single description is based on my stay there, so I can promise you that this post only contains amazing hotels in Gran Canaria that I would stay in again.

Note: I visited the island in September 2021, and certain restrictions were still in place. Therefore, I might not be able to list everything great a hotel usually has to offer in terms of shows and other forms of entertainment.

If you want to see a little bit of everything that the island has to offer, it is a good idea to stay in several different hotels in Gran Canaria.

Best Hotels in Gran Canaria

Gloria Palace Amadores Thalasso & Hotel

The Gloria Palace Amadores is a 4-star wellness hotel and spa in Puerto Rico de Gran Canaria. It is located on the cliffs and is really close to Playa de Amadores and Puerto Rico beach, which happen to be some of the best beaches in Gran Canaria. There is a coastal walkway, so you can easily walk there if you want to relax at the beach.

The hotel spa has a thalasso therapy area that comes with a fitness pool. The perfect place to visit if you want to dedicate a few hours to wellness and health. Aside from being a hotel for a relaxing vacation, this hotel in Gran Canaria is also a great place to stay if you want to scuba dive in the south of the island.

Occidental Roca Negra, Agaete

The Occidental Roca Negra, formerly ‘Hotel & Spa Cordial Roca Negra’, is located in Agaete and situated at the cliffs where it is built into the volcanic rock. It is one of the best hotels in Gran Canaria if you want a more relaxed vacation away from the tourist crowds or an outdoor vacation full of hiking in Tamadaba Natural Park.

The modern rooms all have balconies or terraces, and if the weather is good, you can see Mount Teide in Tenerife while sitting at the small terrace tables. There is a pool area with regular and Bali-style sunbeds and a whirlpool.

The ‘Rocktop Skybar’ is on the rooftop and has a great atmosphere and view. Just know, that the cocktails are rather sweet, so stick to wine if that does not suit your taste. The breakfast is amazing, so be sure not to miss it.

The nice hotel in Gran Canaria is only a short 300 m walk away from the Agaete Piscina Natural, near Playa Punta Gorda, and close to some of the best hidden gems in Gran Canaria.

Boutique Hotel Cordial La Peregrina, Las Palmas

The Cordial La Peregrina is a 4-star boutique hotel in the Triana neighborhood and is a great place to stay in Las Palmas if you want to explore the city, but also want to be able to relax at a pool. It is located really close to the Triana shopping street and it is only a short walk to the historic Vegueta district.

There is a nearby parking garage that is usually open 24/7 but be sure to keep your eyes open for signs that state otherwise. This great hotel in Gran Canaria is part of one of my travel mishaps stories as we had some issues when we tried to leave it. Do yourself a favor and triple-check where you park your car if you have to leave very early in the morning or late at night.

Kumara Serenoa by Lopesan Hotels, Maspalomas

The Kumara Serenoa is a 4-star hotel in Maspalomas and the perfect hotel in Gran Canaria if you want to relax at the pool. The modern rooms have a stylish interior and a spacious bathroom with a zero-threshold shower. The rooms have a small sitting area on a terrace area, which is a great place to listen to live music if you do not want to sit in the bar.

Amazing Vacation Homes in Gran Canaria

Lala’s House, Ingenio

Lala’s House is an amazing vacation home in the town of Ingenio and the ideal place to stay in Gran Canaria if you want to live the local life. It is located near the town’s main plaza, museums, and Nestor Álamo Park.

Upon arrival, it is easy to see why this vacation home has a 9.9 rating on booking.com. This two-bedroom house comes with a kitchen that is more than fully equipped and has everything you could possibly need. It even has a courtyard with flowers, a garden with fresh fruits and vegetables like bell peppers and limes. There is even a gas BBQ!

While Ingenio is one of the most charming towns in Gran Canaria and well worth a visit by itself, it is also really close to the insta-famous Barranco de las Vacas slot canyon and Barranco de Guayadeque. If you want to do some hikes in the area, the incredibly friendly owner of this vacation home in Gran Canaria will be happy to recommend some to you.

Of course, there are more amazing hotels in Gran Canaria, but I had the chance to stay in the accommodations listed above and more than liked them. Therefore, I can more than recommend every single one to you. The Parador de Cruz de Tejeda is home to one of the best viewpoints on the entire island and not too far away from stunning locations like Roque Nublo and Pico de las Nieves. The rooms of this hotel in Gran Canaria are decorated in earthy tones which perfectly tie in with the stunning view and the sustainable concept of this great accommodation.

While the rooms are nice, the real highlight is the pool which overlooks the Tejeda caldera. It is part of the hotel’s spa and for a fee, non-guest can also visit it. Therefore, you can also go for a swim in this scenic pool even if you are not staying in the great hotel in Gran Canaria. Alternatively, you can also enjoy the view from the hotel’s restaurant terrace. Be sure to book a stay at the Parador de Cruz de Tejeda if you are looking for a hotel with a breathtaking view!

Accommodations in Gran Canaria for a smaller budget

If you are traveling on a smaller budget or do not want a more luxurious place as you would rather spend your money on activities, these hostels and hotels in Gran Canaria could be perfect for you.

Sweet Stays, Las Palmas

Sweet Stays is a rather simple accommodation, and somewhat of a cross-over between a hotel and a hostel. You can book a stay in one of the double rooms with a shared bathroom. There is a kitchen and a rooftop area, so it is a great place to stay if you want to meet fellow travelers without staying in an actual hostel and even for business travelers that are looking for a clean and basic place to stay in Gran Canaria.

Sweet Stays is within walking distance of the historic Veguata neighborhood and its attractions. A supermarket and a bus stop (with a direct airport transfer) are nearby. The only downside is the fact that there is no elevator, which means you have to carry your luggage up the stairs.

HiTide Surf House, Las Palmas (Hostel)

HiTide Surf House is a hostel right at the Playa de Las Canteras in Las Palmas. It has a nice rooftop terrace which is the perfect place to relax and chat with fellow travelers at the end of the day. You can choose between a 12-bed dormitory, a 6-bed dormitory, and a double room with a shared bathroom. All in all, it is a nice option if you are traveling on a budget or want to make friends in a new city.
